In a joint effort to tackle the growing issue of cybercrime, and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) have launched a public education campaign to increase awareness and vigilance against online threats. This initiative includes a series of educational videos under the “Scam Masterclass,” each addressing a specific type of scam commonly encountered by the public.

Understanding the scams

The “Scam Masterclass” videos teach you how to spot and avoid falling victim to common scams, such as Impersonation scams, Job scams, and Authority scams. These educational clips highlight the signs of a scam and provide practical advice and tools to help you protect yourself and your loved ones from being deceived.

For instance, in the video focussing on Impersonation scams, you will learn how to identify suspicious files that could corrupt your mobile device, recognise the distinct language patterns that scammers use to impersonate loved ones, and understand how scammers often manipulate a sense of urgency to create panic and lure victims into their traps.

A collaborative effort for a safer community

Hoo Chuan-Wei, StarHub's Chief Information Security Officer, expressed the company's commitment to fostering a safer digital environment through this campaign. He stated, “Through this campaign, we hope to play our part in cultivating a more vigilant and resilient digital community.” The collaboration between StarHub and SPF reflects a shared responsibility to combat cyber threats and ensure the public is well-informed.

The “Scam Masterclass” videos will be widely accessible across multiple platforms. Starting today, you can find them on StarHub's official website, in their retail stores, and on both StarHub and SPF's YouTube, Instagram, and pages. Additionally, the videos will be broadcast on popular StarHub TV channels, including Hub E City, Hub Sports, and AXN, to reach a broader audience.

This campaign is part of a broader initiative by StarHub and SPF to engage the community in active participation against cybercrime. By providing accessible and practical information, they aim to empower you to recognise and resist cyber threats more effectively.

Protecting yourself in the digital age

As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, everyone must stay informed and vigilant. The “Scam Masterclass” series offers a valuable resource to enhance cybersecurity knowledge. Whether you are concerned about protecting your personal information or want to learn more about staying safe online, these videos are a step towards a more secure digital experience.

StarHub and SPF's collaborative approach reminds us that cybersecurity is a collective effort, and educating yourself and others contributes to building a stronger and safer digital community.
