OPPO, a leading global smart device brand, took centre stage at Google I/O Connect in China, shortly after the Google Cloud Next '24 event. Kai Tang, President of OPPO's Software Engineering, outlined the company's strides in generative AI technology, aiming to revolutionise the smartphone sector. OPPO's strategy focuses on integrating high-productivity AI features with Google's Gemini models to enhance user experiences.

Pioneering AI technology in partnership with Google

Kai Tang emphasised the transformative impact of generative AI on the mobile industry, stating, “Generative AI is transforming the mobile industry.” He highlighted OPPO's commitment to accessible AI technology in collaboration with industry giants like Google, aiming to deliver an unparalleled AI phone experience to users worldwide.

OPPO and Google have deepened their partnership, leveraging Google's leading AI capabilities and OPPO's innovative technology. This collaboration has birthed several AI-powered features that transform smartphones into versatile productivity tools. Noteworthy innovations include the AI Recording Summary, simplifying meeting notes by automatically recognising speakers and extracting essential information. This feature is designed to enhance productivity by streamlining the gathering of meeting insights.

Another significant advancement is the AI Toolbox, which comprises AI Summary, AI Writer, and AI Speak. These tools are integrated into the ColorOS smart sidebar, making them readily accessible and enhancing reading, creation, and hands-free operations.

Democratising AI technology and enhancing user experiences

The integration of these AI features marks a significant milestone in OPPO's AI strategy. These features are part of the new ColorOS 14 and are available on the globally launched OPPO Reno12 series. OPPO's commitment to democratising AI technology is evident in its efforts to make AI accessible to a broader audience. Earlier in 2024, OPPO launched its first AI phone, the Find X7 series. By June, the company pledged to equip approximately 50 million devices with generative AI features by year's end, including reintroducing the Find X flagship series to global markets.

OPPO envisions AI phones that are efficient in computing and capable of real-world perception, self-learning, and creativity. The future of AI phones includes support for multimodal interactions and flexible third-party services, promising a comprehensive transformation of the AI phone ecosystem. This approach aims to continually enhance user experiences, pushing the boundaries of what smartphones can achieve.

As generative AI technology progresses, OPPO is set to leverage it to boost productivity and foster creativity, aiming to set new standards in the AI phone market. This ongoing collaboration with Google underscores OPPO's position at the forefront of the industry, driving innovation through strategic partnerships.
