Danny Sullivan, Google's Search Liaison, explained the rationale behind this update: “We've added this after hearing from some that there are times when they'd prefer to just see links to web pages in their search results. This is a nod to the early days of internet search when results were simpler and more text-focused.”
How the ‘Web' filter works
On mobile devices, the “Web” filter appears alongside existing options such as “Images” and “News.” For desktop users, the filter may be hidden under the “More” options, depending on the nature of the search query.
